This was an oversight on our end, picking the default thick provisioning for vms.but it kills Veeam's space and makes it scale poorly. The other question I had is what people recommend if converting a vdisk on a target from thick to thin provisioning. I'm just a bit confused, being new to Veeam, that this info isn't easier to find since that is all that matters to us when it comes to monitoring backups. Also, it would be nice if that info was presented in the form of "last time backed up", which would both answer the previous question and further clarify that jobs are running as expected. I'm assuming there's something I'm missing on where to review un-backed up systems. How can I see a list of all scanned vms from the vmware infrastructure with some column/table that clearly says "backed up" or "not backed up"? There are dozens and dozens of scanned vms but the only way to tell which ones are on jobs (backed up) or not is by right clicking to see if "restore" context option appears. I'm clicking through the inventory, virtual inventory, esxi/vmware, etc.and am starting to think the one single thing I want to do may not be possible. I'm looking at a Veeam backup server that I didn't personally configure, and has no documentation on how it's set up.
